Excellence of God

Have you ever discovered that you’ve short-sided an experience or knowledge, because your definition of excellence was minimized to your experience and your experience alone. Therefore leaving you with an inability to experience true excellence.

Daniel 5:11-15

King Belshazzar needed writing on a wall to be interpreted, which was literally put there by God’s hand in the presence of everyone in his chambers. What I think is subtly interesting about this passage is the reference and credentials of Daniel to interpret the words for the king.

His queen said that Daniel had an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams and riddles (Daniel 5:12). But pay close attention to what the king’s words of Daniel’s abilities are. He express to Daniel that he heard ‘the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found you’ (Daniel 5:15).

The word excellent was moved to modify or give glory to the wisdom of Daniel, which is his experience to exude knowledge to others well. What king Belshazzar did with his verbiage we also do in our life. We misplace identifying what is truly excellent.

In order to discover excellence we need to pay attention to the details. King Belshazzar didn’t pay attention to the details of how his father lived in thinking that no one or anything had honor higher than him. Peter tells us to proclaim the excellencies of God because of the detail that God has gone through to claim us (1 Peter 2:9-12). Never forget what God what did for us, and let that lead our life to explain God’s knowledge.
